For most of the last two summers, if you wanted to take the boat out and land somewhere for dinner in South Cape, there was really one answer: idle down to the foot of the Cape Coral Bridge, tie up at Slipaway, and pick a food truck. That's no longer the only move. As of this year, the same stretch of Caloosahatchee waterfront has a second anchor at the opposite end, and it was built for a different kind of night out entirely.
This isn't a story about South Cape getting a new restaurant. It gets those constantly. It's a story about the basin filling in from both ends at once, with one more piece of shoreline in between about to get reworked into something neither spot resembles.
The Restaurant You Can Idle Right Up To
Bimini Basin Seafood & Cocktails opened its doors on February 28, 2026, at 458 Tudor Drive, tucked inside the newly finished Bimini Square development just west of Four Freedoms Park. Bimini Square itself is a $100 million project from Crowne Development that cut the ribbon a few weeks earlier, on February 5, and besides the restaurant it holds 218 apartment units, a Lee Health outpatient clinic, and a smaller breakfast-and-lunch spot called House of Omelets.
If you're coming by boat, the directions are specific enough to write down: from the Caloosahatchee, turn north between channel markers 85 and 86 to enter Bimini Channel, then follow it north until the basin opens up. The restaurant sits on the north side, and owner Grant Phelan said at opening that the dock had 30 designated slips, first-come, first-served, with room for boats of any size and dock attendants on hand to catch lines. The restaurant's own site now lists 42 slips, which tells you the operation grew its water capacity in the months after opening rather than locking it in on day one.
The kitchen draws from the rest of Phelan Family Brands, the same company behind Pincher's, Deep Lagoon Seafood, Hogfish Harry's, and Keewaydin's, so the menu reads like a greatest-hits list rather than something built from scratch. Two happy hours run daily: Bimini Bites for food from 2 to 5 p.m., and Bimini Sips for drinks from 2 to 6:30 p.m. Reservations are recommended for tables, though the bar stays first-come, first-served. Kayaks share the basin too, launching mostly from Four Freedoms Park next door, so it's not exclusively a powerboat scene even at an address built around 42 slips.
The Marina That Was Already Working the Other End
A mile east, at the foot of the Cape Coral Bridge, Slipaway Food Truck Park & Marina has been running since 2025 at 1811 Cape Coral Parkway East. It's a different format entirely: ten food trucks, a central bar called The Helm, six shaded seating pavilions, and more than 1,370 feet of boardwalk along the river. According to the City of Cape Coral's own project page, the marina holds 30 boat slips plus a fuel dock and ship store, making it a working stop for boaters on the Caloosahatchee, not just a place to eat once you've already arrived.
Slipaway leans into daily programming rather than a single big night. Food trucks run 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., The Helm Bar runs 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and the fuel dock keeps 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. hours seven days a week. Recurring events like the Sip & Shop Night Market and Wags on the Water give it a rhythm that a sit-down restaurant doesn't try to match, and on weekend evenings the free overflow shuttle from nearby street parking suggests the crowds show up whether or not there's a special event on the calendar.

Why the Two Ends Don't Actually Compete
The instinct is to treat these as rivals for the same boaters, but the way they're built argues against that. Bimini Basin is a reservation-friendly, plated-menu restaurant with a chef's kitchen behind it. It's the answer to "where are we having dinner tonight." Slipaway is a marina-first hangout where the draw is variety and repetition, the same trucks and the same bar every week, with live music and a kids-and-dogs-welcome atmosphere that a formal dining room doesn't try to replicate. One is a destination you plan around. The other is a habit you fall into.
That distinction matters if you're the one deciding where to point the bow this weekend, and it matters just as much if you're thinking about what a Gulf-access address in South Cape actually delivers day to day. Two working marinas on the same basin, built for two different kinds of evenings, is a different neighborhood than the one that existed even eighteen months ago.
What's Coming to the Stretch in Between
The bigger shift is still on paper. On July 29, 2026, a $500 million concept plan for the Bimini East properties went before Cape Coral City Council. The proposal, from Bimini Basin Redevelopment Co. with Crown Development leading, sits on city-owned parcels acquired after Hurricane Ian and calls for hotels, medical and general office space, retail, family entertainment venues, structured parking, and a marina of its own. The plan would also reimagine Four Freedoms Park itself, adding a public lawn and event space, a bandshell, and a waterfront promenade with marina access, while relocating the existing playground elsewhere within the development.
None of this has broken ground. Eight privately owned structures, including an ice cream shop, an automotive shop, two bank properties, and three multifamily buildings, still need to be acquired or relocated before the site is assembled. The city has proposed buying the automotive shop and the three multifamily properties for $11 million and conveying them to the developer at appraised value, which is the kind of detail that tells you this is a real negotiation in progress, not a rendering waiting for funding. If it moves forward as presented, the parcel sitting between Bimini Basin and Slipaway would stop being a gap and start being the third leg of the same waterfront.
